About Me

About Ina Grix, LP, MA

Many people come to therapy feeling confused about their relationships. They know something isn’t working, but they can’t see the pattern which turns love into pain.

That is where my work begins.

I have an unusually strong ability for pattern recognition. In sessions, I often help people see the moment when old wounds, fears, or assumptions take over and shape how they relate to the people they love.

Once you catch the pattern in motion, I will give you the tools to change it.

Therapy with me is thoughtful, curious, and collaborative. We explore both the deeper roots of your patterns and the real moments where they appear in daily life. Over time, clients begin to catch these patterns themselves and the playing field completely changes.

My Specialties

Therapy Approach

My approach blends insight, emotional awareness, and practical understanding of how relationships work.

A core part of my work is helping clients understand why we sometimes react to the people we love as if they were someone from our past. This dynamic, known as Transference, is a central idea in psychoanalysis and one that can transform how people understand their relationships.

When these unconscious patterns become visible, people often feel a sense of relief. Something clicks. Instead of feeling broken or confused, their reactions begin to make sense.

Our work then becomes learning how to be kind to yourself and respond differently in the present.

My work draws from several therapeutic frameworks that help people understand both their inner world, their fears and longings, and their relationships.

  • Helps uncover the deeper emotional dynamics shaping relationships.

  • Explains how past relationships influence present reactions in unexpected ways.

  • Helps people understand their emotional needs for closeness, safety, and independence.

  • Focuses on present-moment awareness and body sensations to access emotions directly and feel more alive.

  • Helps identify younger emotional parts that still influence present experiences.

My Background

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a television journalist. Something unusual kept happening in interviews: People would share their deepest personal stories with me, sometimes forgetting the camera was even there.

Over time I realized that helping people understand themselves mattered more to me than reporting their stories.

I later trained in Psychoanalysis and Gestalt Therapy in New York, and went on to become a Licensed Psychoanalyst.

Today I also teach psychoanalysis and transference at a NYC postgraduate institute, where I train future therapists in understanding relational dynamics.

My own life experiences have also shaped my perspective. I grew up in Eastern Europe and witnessed the fall of the Wall, an experience that taught me early how dramatically systems and identities can change.

Outside of therapy I enjoy reading neuroscience and quantum physics papers for fun, dancing, and learning new languages. My cat Charlie occasionally makes a surprise appearance during sessions.
